FAQ
Lactose-free milk is milk to which lactase (enzyme) is added to it in order to break down the naturally occuring lactose.
Lactose-free milk is made by adding the enzyme lactase to raw milk.
Here’s how the process works:
1. Lactase enzyme is added to the raw milk.
2. The lactose is hydrolyzed, meaning it is broken down into glucose and galactose, two simple sugars that are easier to digest.
3. The milk is then pasteurized, homogenized, and packaged like regular milk.
You can find Dairyland Lactose Free Milk at many retailers across Canada. If your local store doesn’t carry it yet, we encourage you to speak with the store’s manager and let them know you’re looking for it! In the meantime, you can check out our store locator to find a retailer near you : https://www.dairyland.ca/en/find-a-store.
Storage conditions in consumers’ homes vary widely — temperature fluctuations, frequent opening, and handling differences.

For the best quality, we recommend:
- Keeping the milk refrigerated at 1–4°C (34–38°F)
- Closing the cap tightly after each use
- Avoiding extended time at room temperature
